Perfect for the jobs that never seem worth calling an electrician for.
Hour Electric is designed around smaller domestic work. The jobs that get put off for months because it feels like too much bother to get someone out. We hear things like:
- Can you replace this socket?
- Can you fit this light?
- Can you add another socket here?
- Can you have a look at why this keeps tripping?
- While you’re here, can you sort these other two things as well?
Yes to all of the above. That’s the point.
Some jobs need more than an hour.
We’re honest about what fits an hourly visit. Larger projects are better handled with a proper survey and quotation, for example:
- full rewires
- major renovation projects
- extensive new circuits
- large consumer unit projects
- large commercial installations
- work requiring extensive investigation
- specialist installations
If your booking clearly needs more time, we’ll let you know and talk through a longer booking or a separate quotation. Nothing extra is started without your say-so.

Questions people ask
Straight answers on pricing, timing and what we can do in a visit.
How much does an electrician cost in York?
Hour Electric uses simple hourly booking pricing. A one-hour visit is £89, shown before you book and charged after the visit. If the work needs it and your electrician has availability, each additional 30 minutes is £35, agreed with you on the day. Materials are charged separately where required.
When do I pay?
After the visit. You add a card when you book so the appointment is confirmed, but nothing is charged until your electrician has been. The visit, plus any extra time or materials you agreed on the day, is then taken from that card.
Will an electrician come out for one small job?
Yes. Hour Electric is designed specifically for small domestic electrical jobs, from a single damaged socket to a light fitting you’ve been meaning to get changed.
Can I give the electrician several jobs?
Yes. Add everything you’d like looked at when you book. Your electrician will work through the list in the order you set during your booked time.
What can be completed in an hour?
It depends on the complexity of each job, access, the condition of the existing installation and whether materials are to hand. Straightforward jobs like replacing a socket or fitting a light often take well under an hour. We can’t guarantee a set number of jobs, but we will work efficiently through your list and tell you if more time is needed.
Are materials included?
No. Materials are charged separately where required. Your electrician will confirm any additional cost with you before fitting parts.
Ready to get those jobs sorted?
Pick a time, tell us what needs doing, and we’ll take care of the rest.
