Terms of service
Plain-English terms for booking an electrician by the hour. Please read them before you book. Draft 2026-09-05
1. Who we are
Hour Electric (“Hour Electric”, “we”) takes bookings for domestic electrical work in York and arranges for the work to be carried out by qualified electricians employed by our partner firms. Your contract for the booking and payment is with Hour Electric. Company registration details will appear here once complete.
2. What you are booking
You book an electrician’s time in a morning, afternoon or evening arrival window. The first hour costs £89, including travel within our service area. If you agree on the day that the electrician should stay longer, each further 30 minutes costs £35. Time is charged in 30-minute steps and only once you have approved it, on the electrician’s device or by the link we send you.
Jobs are worked through in the order you list them. If something on your list cannot be finished in the time booked, the electrician will tell you and you can approve more time, book another visit, or stop there. We may check your list before the visit and suggest a longer booking or a different approach; nothing changes unless you agree.
3. Materials
Small parts the electrician fits are charged at the price they record on the day, with no mark-up from Hour Electric. Materials over £150 in total need your approval before they are fitted. Parts you supply yourself are fitted at your risk; the electrician may decline to fit anything that is unsafe or unsuitable.
4. Paying
You save a card when you book. Nothing is charged until after the visit. Once you have checked the work and the total and confirmed it, we charge the saved card for the time booked, any extra time you approved, and any materials, less any credit we have given you. We email you a receipt. If a charge fails we will email you a link to pay another way; the visit remains payable.
5. Cancelling, moving and access
| Situation | Charge |
|---|---|
| You cancel or move the visit before 6pm the day before | Nothing |
| You cancel or move after 6pm the day before, before the electrician sets off | £35 |
| The electrician arrives in the window and cannot get in after waiting 15 minutes and trying to contact you twice | £45 |
| We or the partner firm move or cancel the visit | Nothing, and a £10 credit on the rebooked visit |
These charges are taken from your saved card. We look at every one before charging and may waive it, for example a first genuine mix-up.
6. Your right to cancel and starting within 14 days
Because you book online or by phone, you have 14 days from booking to cancel without giving a reason. Most visits happen inside that period. When you book you ask us to go ahead with the visit within the 14 days; if you then cancel after the electrician has started work, you pay for the time and materials used up to that point, on the terms above.
7. Your responsibilities
- Someone aged 18 or over must be at the property during the visit, or you must have told us in advance how the electrician gets in.
- Make the consumer unit and the areas on your list reachable, and tell us about parking, pets and anything that affects access.
- Tell us if you are booking for a property you do not own or live in, so we can arrange sign-off with the right person.
8. Our responsibilities
Work is carried out by qualified electricians working for firms we have checked for registration and insurance. Notifiable work is certified through the electrician’s scheme and you receive the paperwork by email. If something is not right with the work, tell us within 30 days and we will arrange for it to be looked at again at no charge. Our liability is limited to the price of the visit except where the law does not allow that limit, for example death or personal injury caused by negligence.
9. Complaints
Reply to any email from us or write to the address above. We aim to answer within two working days and resolve most things within ten. If we cannot agree, you can use an alternative dispute resolution service; we will tell you which one applies.
10. General
These terms are governed by English law and the courts of England and Wales. We may update them; the version you accepted is recorded on your booking and applies to it.
