What every visit includes

If a quick job takes longer than 30 minutes, it becomes a standard visit: you pay the standard price, nothing more.
Bigger than a small job?
A consumer unit, a rewire or a new circuit needs a proper look. Add it and we’ll say so before you book, and pass it to a local contractor to quote.
What you pay for, and when
You pay for the electrician’s visit, and we work out what your list needs. One small job fits a 30-minute quick visit. Most lists fit a standard visit of up to an hour. A longer list books in 30-minute steps up to three hours, at £109 plus £39 for each further 30 minutes, and you see the expected labour price before you book. Anything bigger than that needs a quote rather than an hourly visit, and we say so on the booking page.
The booked time covers travel within our service area, the normal tools and test equipment, and the labour on your list. Where we can reasonably expect materials, a standard socket say, we estimate those too; where we can’t, we say so. Extra work or different materials are only ever added with your approval on the day.
The prices include a £5 booking fee, Hour Electric’s charge for arranging the visit and holding your card; the rest is the contractor’s price for the visit. Book your first visit with code LAUNCH and we waive the fee.
Landlords: an electrical safety report (EICR) is a fixed price by property size, from £119 including the fee. See inspection prices.
You add a card when you book, but nothing is charged until after the visit. The price, plus any extra time or materials you agreed on the day, is then taken from that card.
The prices shown are what you pay. Where the electrical contractor carrying out your work is VAT registered, its share of the price includes VAT and your receipt shows it, with the contractor’s VAT number. The booking fee is shown separately on the receipt with Hour Electric’s own VAT position.
If the work clearly requires a longer appointment or separate quotation, we’ll let you know before additional work is carried out.
Materials
Parts such as sockets, switches and light fittings are charged separately where required. Your electrician carries common accessories and will confirm the cost with you before fitting anything.
You’re welcome to supply your own fittings, provided they’re suitable for the location and can be installed safely.
Our promise
- Check before you pay. Nothing is charged until you’ve looked at the work and signed it off. If something isn’t right, say so before you sign and nothing is taken until we’ve looked into it.
- Put right, free. If work done on your visit develops a fault within 90 days, the same contractor comes back and puts it right at no charge. If they can’t, we send another.
- Not done properly, not charged. If we agree that work on your list wasn’t done properly, you don’t pay for that work. Parts that were fitted stay paid for.

When do I pay?
After the visit. You add a card when you book so the appointment is confirmed, but nothing is charged until your electrician has been. The visit, plus any extra time or materials you agreed on the day, is then taken from that card.
How long will my jobs take?
As a guide, two small jobs, sometimes three: a like-for-like socket or switch swap takes around 15 to 20 minutes, a light fitting 20 to 30, and fitting a new socket or tracing a fault can take a standard visit on its own. You don’t have to work it out: add your jobs and we tell you how long we expect the visit to take and what it should cost, before you book. Access, the state of the existing wiring and whether parts are to hand all make a difference on the day, and nothing extra is charged without your agreement.
Are materials included?
No. Materials are charged separately where required. Your electrician will confirm any additional cost with you before fitting parts.
What if the electrician needs longer?
If the work is taking longer than the booked time, your electrician will explain the options. That may mean adding extra time on the day where availability allows, or arranging a separate quotation for larger work. Nothing extra is carried out without your agreement.
