Replacing damaged sockets
Cracked, scorched, discoloured or loose sockets are among the most common jobs we’re asked to do in York. A damaged socket isn’t just untidy. Cracked faceplates and loose fixings can expose live parts, so it’s worth getting them changed promptly. Replacement is usually quick, and your electrician carries standard white sockets as stock.
Additional sockets
Adding a socket where there isn’t one, for example behind a desk, beside a bed or in a garage, is often possible by extending an existing circuit. How long it takes depends on the route the cable needs to take and the condition of the existing installation. Many additional sockets fit comfortably within an hourly visit, but we don’t promise that every addition can be completed in one hour. If your electrician can see it needs longer, they’ll tell you before starting.
USB sockets and upgrades
Swapping a standard socket for one with built-in USB charging is a straightforward like-for-like change in most cases. You can supply your own accessories or ask your electrician to bring them, with any material cost confirmed first.
Alterations to existing sockets
Moving a socket slightly, converting a single to a double, or tidying up a socket left in an awkward position after building work. Describe what’s there now and what you’d like, and add a photo if you can.
Loose sockets and faceplates
A socket that wobbles or won’t sit flush is often a fixing or back-box issue rather than an electrical fault, and is normally quick to put right.

What can be completed in an hour?
It depends on the complexity of each job, access, the condition of the existing installation and whether materials are to hand. Straightforward jobs like replacing a socket or fitting a light often take well under an hour. We can’t guarantee a set number of jobs, but we will work efficiently through your list and tell you if more time is needed.
Are materials included?
No. Materials are charged separately where required. Your electrician will confirm any additional cost with you before fitting parts.
What if the electrician needs longer?
If the work is taking longer than the booked time, your electrician will explain the options. That may mean adding extra time on the day where availability allows, or arranging a separate quotation for larger work. Nothing extra is carried out without your agreement.
