Minor domestic repairs

Most electrical repairs in a York home are small: an accessory that’s damaged, a fitting that has failed, a switch that no longer works properly. They rarely justify a quotation visit, which is why they get left. Hour Electric takes them on by the hour.

Damaged accessories

Cracked sockets, scorched faceplates, broken switch rockers, loose fused spurs and damaged cooker or shower switches. In most cases the accessory is replaced like for like and tested.

Faulty fittings

Light fittings that have stopped working, extractor fans that rattle or have seized, and outdoor fittings that have let water in. Your electrician will confirm whether a repair or replacement makes more sense and agree any material cost with you before going ahead.

Switches and sockets

Switches and sockets are the accessories that get the most use and are the first to wear out. See our dedicated pages on sockets and lighting and switches in York.

Lighting faults

Flickering, dead lights or a lighting circuit that trips. If the cause isn’t obvious, your electrician will investigate. Diagnosis time can vary, and we’re upfront about that on our fault finding page.

Several repairs in one visit

Repairs are the perfect thing to batch up. Add everything that needs fixing to one booking and your electrician will work through the list in the order you set. If it runs past the hour, you’ll be told and can add time where available.

Questions about electrical repairs

Will an electrician come out for one small job?

Yes. Hour Electric is designed specifically for small domestic electrical jobs, from a single damaged socket to a light fitting you’ve been meaning to get changed.

Are materials included?

No. Materials are charged separately where required. Your electrician will confirm any additional cost with you before fitting parts.

What if the electrician needs longer?

If the work is taking longer than the booked time, your electrician will explain the options. That may mean adding extra time on the day where availability allows, or arranging a separate quotation for larger work. Nothing extra is carried out without your agreement.
