Replacement light fittings
The most common lighting job we do in York is swapping an existing fitting for a new one. A dated pendant for something you actually like, a broken flush fitting for a working one, or a bathroom light that’s seen better days. If the wiring is already there, a replacement usually fits comfortably within an hourly visit.
Pendant and ceiling lights
Pendants, flush and semi-flush ceiling lights, spotlight bars and downlight replacements. Your electrician will check the fitting is suitable for the location, fix it securely and test it before leaving.
Wall lights
Replacing existing wall lights is straightforward. Adding new wall lights where there’s no wiring takes longer and depends on the route for the cable, so describe what’s there now and we’ll advise.
Outdoor lighting
Porch lights, security lights and lights by the back door. Outdoor fittings need to be suitable for the weather and installed correctly, and your electrician can advise on the right type if you haven’t bought one yet.
Faulty light switches
Switches that stick, crackle, feel loose or only work sometimes are usually quick to replace. Dimmer switches that hum or no longer match your bulbs can be changed for compatible ones.
Lighting faults

Supplying your own fittings
You’re welcome to buy your own light fittings. As long as they’re suitable for the location and can be installed safely, your electrician will fit them. If something isn’t suitable, they’ll explain why.

Can I supply my own light fitting?
Generally yes, provided it is suitable for the location and can be installed safely. If a fitting you’ve bought isn’t suitable, your electrician will explain why and talk through the options.
What can be completed in an hour?
It depends on the complexity of each job, access, the condition of the existing installation and whether materials are to hand. Straightforward jobs like replacing a socket or fitting a light often take well under an hour. We can’t guarantee a set number of jobs, but we will work efficiently through your list and tell you if more time is needed.
What if the electrician needs longer?
If the work is taking longer than the booked time, your electrician will explain the options. That may mean adding extra time on the day where availability allows, or arranging a separate quotation for larger work. Nothing extra is carried out without your agreement.
